The The big apple Cycling Series
consists of five one-day races held in Prospect Park kept from May through August that have been staples on the calendar for a long time. In
addition to the individual race payouts, there are actually trophies for the line winners in each field.
The Cadence Monday Night Race Series
is a season long series with Floyd Bennett Field on, as you might speculate, Tuesday nights. Small and intense, these races are hard and fun.
There is an overall series leader's jersey, as well as a green jersey for that sprint king.
Each and every Father's Day, there is a Skyscraper Harlem Have a go at Classic,
a four corner criterium relating to the streets surrounding Marcus Garvey Playground in Harlem. It's
not often you're allowed race on the actual streets of New york, so this race constantly fills up fast and the course is lined using spectators. This year's event could be the 36th
The end of August brings the most prestigious race in Ny, the Mengoni Grand Prix. Sponsored by Fred Mengoni, that helped bring Greg Lemond to help Europe, George Hincapie is among the former
winners. Held in Central Park, the race is use by the Century Highway Club Association (CRCA) and it is limited to a P/1/2 discipline, a Cat. 3 field and Women's field.
There are also plenty of races a short drive from Manhattan, including two races also use by the CRCA in the Bear Mountain race training course at Harriman State Recreation area. A scenic
twenty-two. 4 km (fifteen mile) loop with plenty of climbing and an 50+ mph lineage.
Another Racing Option --
A word about the CRCA which is a club, in fact, it's the largest in New You are able to. The club puts with many races in Central Park throughout every season
which are open only to members. It is an attractive option for folks who live in Manhattan and wish to race in Central Playground. For more info, go to the CRCA website at crca.
A few Useful Websites
You might want either an USCF license (which you'll on the USA Bicycle website) or World UCI license. Unless you have a license you can aquire a one-day license at most of the
races. One-day licenses are great for the Cat. 5 field only.
There are two excellent web sites that will help you figure out when the races are being held. NY Pace. com is a New york cycling portal where you'll find all of the upcoming races, race
results, pictures and whole bundle more.
Additional site to keep saved is BikeReg. com which allows you to pre-register for most with the races mentioned above. Fields do fill up especially in the summer, so pre-registering ensures
you a spot and also noticeably simplifies your race day sign in process. Show ones license, sign a waiver and take your number. That's it.
Bike racing in The big apple is alive and attractive. Although not the normal road races found elsewhere, the circuit races are hard, fun and typically, as safe as racing may be.
